Creating a Winning Culture

Updated: Apr 5, 2021

New National Champions have high expectations for following season

Leaving the blue confetti behind, the men's basketball team began preparing for the next season.

One thing the team knew that would remain for the season to come was the sea of green and the cheers from the crowd in the stands. Junior Ryan Hawkins entered the new season after winning a National Championship.

“Having that feeling last year made us want to have that feeling again,” Hawkins said. “We were excited to start the preseason and get in shape for the season.”

Hawkins went on to say that he did not feel like there was any additional pressure after winning the National Championship. Former player and Graduate Assistant Dray Starzl helped prepare the men for the upcoming season.

“The only way to help the team prepare for the season is give the young guys some advice on overcoming the hard work and grind, also just to be positive with everybody and make them excited to be there,” Starzl said.

Through pre-season and during the season, the team prepared for each game and focused on improving themselves.

“We continue to get better everyday in practice and it’s important for our kids to know there is still room for improvement.” Starzl said.
